Come shimmy to the exotic beat of Middle Eastern music!

Belly dance draws from the dance traditions of many eastern countries including Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon (to name a few) and is an excellent way to imbue your life with spirit and sensuality.  In a friendly, energetic atmosphere we’ll focus on body isolations, basic dance steps and combinations, and the use of finger cymbals.  Come experience a new way to tone up, become flexible, and get your blood dancing!

Directions to Family Learning Center   (Also known as FLC)

From Downtown Menomonie:

From downtown, simply drive north on Broadway (Hwy 25) and take a right (east) on Oak (where K-mart is). Go a couple blocks to the T-intersection at Wilson. Turn right on Wilson and FLC is at the end of the block at the corner of Wilson and Cedar on the right hand side. Take a right on Cedar to park in front or to turn into the FLC parking lot.

 

From I-94:

Location information:  There are no street shoes allowed in the studio, so please leave them at the door when you arrive.  You are welcome to bring your other personal belongings into the studio to have available for you throughout class.  There is a bathroom upstairs and two bathrooms/changing rooms downstairs.  Don't forget to bring lots of water!

Rebecca Whitman has been studying belly dance for ten years, continuously searching for new ways to share this beautiful and freeing dance with others.  She has participated in many performances and now heads a unique tribal-fusion belly dance group called Sahaja.  They perform at various venues including Renaissance Faires, weddings, retirement and birthday parties, corporate and political events, charity functions and much more!

Belly Dance Lessons for All Women

6:00-7:00 p.m.  Fun, Fitness, and Fundamentals:
             
This class is great for beginners, but would also help more advanced students with their technique and conditioning of the basics.
7:15-8:15 p.m.  Choreography, Conditioning, and Combinations:
                       
This class will dig deeper into the dance. Though both classes will include improv and choreography, "C-cubed" will focus on it, along with learning moves beyond the basics.  Zills (finger cymbals) will be used regularly.
Cost: $35 for the 4-week session ($25 for full time students)

$10 drop-in fee ($8 for full time students)

Details:

Please wear clothes in which you feel freedom of movement and feel good doing so; wear layers so you don’t get too hot or too cold.

Please bring:

  • A hip scarf/shawl. Jen has some to borrow. Jingly belts are also encouraged! :)

  • Zills (finger cymbals)

  • A water bottle

Classes at the University of Wisconsin-- Eau Claire

This class will be an introductory course in American tribal belly dance, and no previous dance experience is required. Each dancer is encouraged to abandon her worries and hesitations at the door and prepare to experience a six week session of celebrating her own body through movement and discovering the power and beauty that dancing ignites within all women.
